A cast of thousands of pretty A-listers assemble for the romantic comedy Valentine’s Day, directed by romantic comedy master Garry Marshall (Pretty Woman, Beaches).

The film is all set on Valentines Day, covering all different generations with intersecting storylines. There’s Reed (Ashton Kutcher), a florist who successfully proposes to girlfriend Morely (Jessica Alba). Reed’s best friend Julia (Jennifer Garner) is also in love, with a handsome doctor (Patrick Dempsey), while her best friend Kara (Jessica Biel) is lamenting her single status.

Meanwhile sports reporter Kelvin (Jamie Foxx) would rather be covering the story of dumped footballer Sean (Eric Dane), instead of the Valentine’s mush he has been directed to do by his boss (Kathy Bates).

Receptionist Liz (Anne Hathaway) is trying to juggle her job working for sports agent Paula (Queen Latifah), moonlighting as a sex phone worker, and her new boyfriend Jason (Topher Grace).

Teenage love is represented between Felicia (Taylor Swift) and Willy (Taylor Lautner), as well as Grace (Emma Roberts) who wants to sleep with boyfriend Alex (Carter Jenkins) for the first time in her lunch break. She turns to her grandparents Edgar (Hector Elizondo) and Estelle (Shirley Maclaine) for advice, while her little brother Edison (Bryce Robinson) is desperately trying to send flowers to the girl he loves.

And finally there’s Kate (Julia Roberts), a soldier returning home for just one night, who ends up sitting next to the gorgeous Holden (Bradley Cooper) on the plane.

Phew! You practically need a diagram to make sense of all the connections between the characters, but there’s not actually much of a story to follow, and it’s surprising that with all the jumping around, the film feels slow and drags at times.

But there are some funny moments, a few twists, and plenty of Easter eggs hidden throughout for Pretty Woman fans, including multiple mentions of the Beverly Wilshire hotel. And if you’re a true fan, make sure you stick around during the credits to hear Julia Roberts utter one of her most famous lines.

Valentine’s Day is predictable but sure to satisfy anyone looking for a safe rom com to take a date to on the big night, and if you get bored, well at least the cast is very pretty to stare at.

Extras : A music video, a featurette or three, a peppy commentary by director Marshall and some deleted scenes.
